Invest Islands, Lombok’s leading real estate investment company, has started to transform a pristine stretch of this idyllic Indonesian island’s south coast into one of Southeast Asia’s most spectacular and eco-sensitive resort projects: Gran Meliá Lombok.
Scheduled to open in early 2025, this breath-taking five-star beachfront and hillside retreat will comprise a collection of architecturally iconic luxury villas, overlooking the Indian Ocean and framed by emerald headlands and rippling rice fields at Torok Bay. Just a short drive from the international airport, Gran Meliá Lombok will present experience-seeking travellers and forward-thinking investors with a unique opportunity for stylish and sustainable escapes, away from the crowds.
Now, Invest Islands has revealed that development is fully on track, with several important milestones having already been reached. In terms of infrastructure, the main 1.5km access road now reaches the pinnacle of the site, about 240 metres above sea level. This will enable work to start on the levelling and landscaping of the very top villas.
Nestled among swaying palm trees, the resort will house world-class facilities, including a clubhouse and restaurants. Work is also moving forward in the back-of-house areas. These are the aspects that visitors rarely have a chance to see, but are critical in delivering smooth and successful operations behind the scenes and ensuring exceptional guest experiences.
In terms of accommodation, construction is progressing well across all units. Bali-based Inspiral Architecture & Design Studios has crafted a series of creative residential concepts, including KAYMA Moroccan tented suites, AURORA minimalist villas, INSPIRAL eco-luxury villas and LA RESIDENZA Bauhaus-style residences. Ranging from beautiful hillside duplexes and one-, two- and three-bedroom residences, each unit will be fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, luxurious interiors, private pools, panoramic windows and ocean or hillside views.
Invest Islands’ glamping tent partner, Serge Ferrari, has already started to galvanize the structure of the KAYMA tented suites, while also tailoring the eco-friendly exterior fabric for the flowing roofs. Structural work has also commenced on the INSPIRAL villas, with the private pools set to take shape within the next month. At the most advanced stage, the AURORA villas will enter the final phase soon, introducing elements to meet the five-star specifications of the Gran Meliá brand.
As development moves forward at pace, senior executives from Meliá Hotels International recently travelled from Spain to Lombok to see the property, which will become the first Gran Meliá resort in Indonesia, and to assess the potential of further opportunities in the country. The delegation was led by Mr. Enrique Ortiz, Vice President of Global Operations for EMEA & Asia Pacific.

“We could not be happier with the progress of Gran Meliá Lombok. Our partners, from the architects and designers to the craftspeople and construction teams, are working tirelessly to ensure that this one-of-a-kind resort is completed on schedule and to the highest standards of quality and sustainability. The visit of Mr. Ortiz and the Meliá team to Lombok is another sign of the emerging status of this enchanting island. Lombok has a very bright future and we are delighted to be at its forefront,” said Jack Brown, Co-Founder of Invest Islands.
“Torok Bay is one of the most beautiful settings in Lombok Island. As we strengthen our presence in Southeast Asia and enhance our commitment to sustainability, the first Gran Meliá resort in Indonesia represents a strategic opportunity for us. We invite you all to discover ‘A Life Well Lived’ at Gran Meliá Lombok,” Mr. Ortiz commented.
Sales have already opened for Gran Meliá Lombok, which is expected to attract a new generation of experience-seeking global explorers, urban executives and digital nomads who are searching for a sustainable new way of life, away from major cities such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Jakarta.
Gran Meliá Lombok has already been named as the “Best Upcoming Hotel Development” in Indonesia and “Best Hospitality Development” in Asia at the PropertyGuru Property Awards. To watch a short video about the progress of the project, click here.
