Food For Now: McDonald’s® Singapore Distributes more than 4,000 Meals to Migrant Workers for Deepavali

McDonald’s Singapore General Manager, Benjamin Boh (centre) and McDonald’s employees distribute the meals to residents of The Leo

More than 4,000 McDonald’s meals were distributed yesterday evening (2 November 2021) to the residents and staff of two dormitories – The Leo and Westlite Juniper – to spread some cheer ahead of the Festival of Lights this week. Beneficiaries received specially curated McDonald’s meals including the Chicken McCrispy (2pc), an Apple Pie and a canned drink. Meals were also specially catered for vegetarians in the community.

“We know it has been another long and challenging year for our migrant workers – the heroes in our community whose contributions we do not take for granted. We hope our small gesture of appreciation will help light up their smiles this Deepavali even as they think of their families back home,” said Benjamin Boh, General Manager, McDonald’s® Singapore.

In addition to the meals, McDonald’s developed and shared a digital greeting card, designed for migrant workers to send messages of encouragement as well as holiday greetings to their friends and families both locally and abroad.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to McDonald’s for their support and care for our migrant workers here at The Leo. We appreciate the kind gesture that will definitely put a smile on the faces of our residents and bring some cheer during such challenging times. We wish all of our Hindu residents a Happy Deepavali and happy holidays to the rest of our residents!”, said Chiang Chee Keong, Assistant Director (Compliance), MES Group, The Leo.

“Westlite Accommodation is pleased to collaborate with McDonald’s to distribute free meals and bring an extra touch of happiness to our migrant worker residents and frontline staff. This will recreate the warm feeling of home away from home as they celebrate Deepavali festivities with friends, food, prayers and sending fun greetings to their families from our Westlite dormitory,” said Adren Koh, Operations Manager, Westlite Juniper.

“My friends and I sometimes enjoy ordering burgers and fries from McDonald’s to Westlite Juniper after a day’s work, so I’m very happy that McDonald’s is treating us to this special meal for Deepavali. I’m also happy that Westlite and the people in Singapore care about migrant workers,” said Rahman Mohammed Shahneazur, Resident, Westlite Juniper.

The 4,000 McDonald’s meals were prepared by McDonald’s crew in more than 70 McDonald’s restaurants located across the island and were delivered to both dormitories, observing the highest level of safety measures in food delivery.
