Rootstock Music 2021 – where great music meets great wine

Rootstock Music is proud to reveal the six headliners confirmed to take part in the event’s fifth edition, which will take place online on Saturday, 10th July and Sunday, 11th July. The festival is also partnering with VIVANT, the world’s first wine experience platform, to offer attendees complimentary access to 48 hours of live Experiences.

To enhance the experience, festival-goers can purchase a Tasting Kit featuring six of France’s best sustainable wines. The virtual event will bring together new and established musicians, responsible winemakers, and VIVANT’s team of certified wine advisors for an unforgettable weekend that bottles the magic of music and wine.

This year, the lineup of performers speaks to the genre-blurring spirit of modern music—as well as the power of shared experiences to inspire hope and foster togetherness. French band L’Impératrice (“the empress”) has been conquering the European music scene since 2015, when they dropped their seminal Odyssée EP. Dreamy and sensual but with a distinct disco- and funk-inflected sound, the electronic pop group borrows inspiration from movie soundtracks of the 1970s.

In March 2021, L’Impératrice released their latest album, Tako Tsubo, which is packed with catchy rhythms, jazzy synths, and longer dance hits that have drawn comparisons to French electronic duo Daft Punk.

French rock band Last Train was founded by four high school friends from the Alsace region of eastern France in 2007. Since then, their sound has evolved and their careers have exploded—in the past four years, the group has put out two albums (Weathering in 2017 and The Big Picture in 2019), formed their label, Cold Frame, and played 350 concerts across Europe, Asia, and the United States.

Victor Solf is the former lead singer of the neo-soul group Her (which disbanded after the tragic loss of founding member Simon Carpentier). Now the musician has released his first solo album, Still. There’s Hope, which he recorded during France’s first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. Stripped-down, lyrical, and soulful, this new debut is sure to satisfy fans of Her while appealing to a new audience.

Brussels-based pop band Great Mountain Fire debuted their third album, Movements, in November 2020. Released by the prestigious label Kitsuné Musique, the new drop delivers on the soul, disco, and funk-based beats for which the quintet is best known.

In 2019, the singer-songwriter Theo Lawrence unveiled his first solo album, Sauce Piquante, whose title takes its name from a song by the Cajun artist Jimmy Newman. Produced in Valdosta, Georgia by sound engineer Mark Neill of the Black Keys fame, the 12-track album is steeped in the distinctive sounds of swamp pop, gospel, and bluegrass. The Gentilly, France-based artist also dropped his toe-tapping single, “I’ll Never Get Over,” in April 2021.

Brothers Camille and Colin Goallen of heavy psych band Moundrag are on a mission to prove you don’t need guitars to make rock ‘n’ roll. With drums, keys, and wailing vocals, the duo is known for their powerful, muscular sound, with plenty of freewheeling keyboard solos to go around.

In addition to these headliners, 20 young artists selected by the ROOTSTOCK jury will also take the stage for the chance to win one of five Artist Awards. 20 shortlisted musicians will be announced on 25th June 2021.

Access to the 48 hours of music and wine experiences is free of charge with a complimentary Music Pass. To get the whole experience, guests can purchase a Wine & Music Pass (€55 tax included) directly on VIVANT. This Music & Wine Pass consists of a ROOTSTOCK Artists Crush Tasting Kit featuring six of France’s best sustainably produced wines. The wines have been chosen to complement each of the headliners’ performances.

Music and wine have a way of gathering us all. This year, more than ever, come be reminded of the importance of community, shared experiences, and coming together over great tunes and sustainably made wine.

Rootstock runs from 10th to 11th July 2021. Tickets and more information available here
